    Vaccination Policy

Preventative Healthcare Policy for Low Farm Kennels, Easton Maudit

All dogs being admitted to the kennels must have been vaccinated according to the following protocol:  Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus. (DHP)

Puppies usually require 2 vaccinations with DHP, they must be at least 10 weeks of age at the time of the second vaccination. A booster DHP is required at 12-15 months of age and then, following this, every 3 years. For puppies or newly vaccinated dogs (not boosters), the vaccine must be given at least 1 week before coming to the kennels. If the booster vaccination falls due during the pets stay then this must be done prior to their stay.   If the client has chosen to do titre testing for their pet, then a valid titre test result, performed within the previous 12 months, must be available. In order not to vaccinate the pet must demonstrate satisfactory antibodies for all 3 components of the vaccine.  Leptospirosis

Puppies, or newly vaccinated adults require a course of 2 injections. A booster for leptospirosis vaccination is required for all dogs every 12-15 months. For puppies or newly vaccinated adults (not boosters) the pet must wait 3 weeks from the date of vaccination for full immunity to develop, before coming in to kennels.  If the booster vaccination falls due during the pets stay then this must be done prior to their stay.

Infectious Canine Cough (`kennel cough`, Bordetella and Parainfluenza). `Kennel cough` vaccine lasts 12 months from the date of administration. Pets coming in to the kennels must have a valid vaccination. For puppies or newly vaccinated adults (not boosters) the pet must wait 3 weeks form the date of vaccination for full immunity to develop, before coming in to kennels.  If the booster vaccination falls due during the pets stay then this must be done prior to their stay.   Vaccinated dogs can shed the vaccine strain for up to six weeks after vaccination, this does not cause infectious canine cough infection and would only be of potential issue in the company of severely immunocompromised pet.   Evidence of vaccination, usually in the form of a Veterinary Health Record Card, should be submitted for review prior to the date of entry to the kennels, so that the vaccine status can be checked and addressed.

    Ectoparasites and Endoparasites.

Pets must not come in to the kennels with a flea or worm burden. It is therefore preferable that they are treated with an effective product in the week prior to coming in to kennels.
